Update 11:05 p.m. EDT Sept 12: Hurricane Florence has weakened to a Category 2 hurricane with wind speeds of 110 mph, down from 115 mph three hours ago, according the National Hurricane Center. Florence is about 280 miles east south east of Wilmington, North Carolina, and is picking up a little speed, now moving at 17 mph. Storm surge warnings are posted along parts of the North and South Carolina coast. “A Storm Surge Warning means there is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline,” according to the NHC. Some areas could see a storm surge between 9 and 13 feet, according to the latest NHC update.
